London Philharmonic music director Vladimir Jurowski returns with a unique program of early orchestral works by two composers who reshaped 20th-century music. Mahler’s gargantuan early symphonic work, Das klagende Lied (for soloists, chorus, and orchestra), tells the story of a brother’s friendship betrayed in murder. Jurowski leads the work in its original three-movement scoring. This is Mahler when youthful passion surged full on, before age gave way to more reasoned art. The program begins with Alban Berg’s first symphonic work, written under Mahler’s influence and treading a tight but magnificent line between the 19th and 20th centuries.

Group packages starting at $57 include one-day Flower Show admission and concert ticket to hear The Philadelphia Orchestra perform. Add dinner at the Kimmel Center’s picturesque Cadence Restaurant. For group package discounts call 215-875-7695 or e-mail groupsales@philorch.org.
