LL Langstroth, the Father of American Beekeeping
Carl Flatow, Program Director, Down to Earth
Carl will talk about the Rev. LL Langstroth, born in Philadelphia on Christmas Day, in 1810.
His story is tightly interwoven into the fabric of Philadelphia and American History, yet evidence of his legacy has been virtually absent from the public view his home town.
In the year of his 200th birthday, we have begun to celebrate his life and achievements, we hope, in a lasting, visible way so that Philadelphians will remember and take pride in this previously unsung local hero.
Carl will also focus on Langstroth as a man of God and spiritual leader who felt no conflict also doing real, hands-on science. Langstroth is a great model for us, in America, in 2010, when, we have begun to appreciate the need, as citizens, to utilize all the tools at our disposal to build a better society.
